Every weed around here runs on a schedule. Crabgrass germinates once soil holds around 55°; winter annuals sprout as it cools back down in fall. By the time you can see the problem, the window to prevent it has usually closed — you can't stop July crabgrass in July. That fight was decided back in late winter. Some years the pre-emergent window opens in late February, other years the middle of March — the ground makes that call, and we just read it. Why then: Crabgrass is stopped before it ever sprouts, and the winter weeds quit spreading through your dormant lawn.

The pre-emergent barrier gets reinforced, broadleaf weeds get treated, and the first feeding goes on once the bermuda has passed roughly half green.

No — and we're glad you asked, because it's the most common mix-up. Woodlawn is a lawn treatment company: weed control, fertilization, aeration, seeding, mole control, flower bed weed control, and flea & tick control. No mowing, no landscaping. One nice side effect of treatment, though: a clean lawn usually needs noticeably less mowing, since the fastest-growing thing in an untreated yard is usually the weeds.
How many applications are there, and when do they happen?
Eight per year, running from late winter through late fall — pre-emergent rounds, post-emergent weed treatments, and feedings spaced across the seasons. The exact timing of each one follows soil temperature and weather, which shift a bit from year to year.
What happens if it rains right after a treatment?
Usually nothing bad — many applications are meant to be watered in, and we watch the forecast when scheduling. If a rare downpour genuinely washes out a treatment before it can work, tell us and we'll make it right. The program only works if every application actually does its job.
When can my kids and pets go back on the lawn?
As a general rule, we ask you to stay off a treated lawn until it has dried, but the honest answer is that it depends on what was applied that day. We tell you exactly what applies at every single visit — it's part of why you get a text before we come and clear guidance before we leave.
Can I start in the middle of the year?
Yes. The program picks up at whatever application the season calls for — there's no waiting until late winter to begin. We'll also tell you honestly what the rest of the year can fix and what will have to wait for its proper window, like pre-emergent timing or fall seeding.
Will my lawn be completely weed-free?
No lawn on earth is, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. What changes on the program is the scale of the problem: instead of a yard losing ground every season, you get the occasional stray that blew in on the wind — noticed, treated, forgotten. By the second and third year, even the strays get scarce.
